Things to consider when creating E-Mail addresses for your company / domain:

There are several options – here are some ideas –

Simply use the first name:

joe@yourdomain.com

Use first initial last name:

jschmoe@yourdomain.com

Use first initial, a dot, and last name:

j.schmoe@yourdomain.com

Things to think about:

  • If the address is for a “position,” such as a receptionist, and there is a chance that person may leave and be replaced by someone else, use a generic address, such as receptionist@yourdomain.com – adding/changing E-Mail addresses based on personal names in those situations can become cumbersome.
  • It is possible to have multiple aliases for one name. For example, a doctor may want to have drschmoe@yourdomain.com, but we can also configure dr@yourdomain.com, radiologist@yourdomain.com, etc. to funnel into the primary mailbox.
  • It is possible to have multiple E-Mail accounts configured per computer

FAQ's

Q: Can I retrieve messages from multiple computers?

A: Yes. There are settings within your E-Mail client that will allow you to retrieve your E-Mail messages from multiple computers. Note that all computers must be set the same way.
For Outlook Express: click Tools->Accounts; select your account hosted with CTS, and click "Properties"; click the Advanced tab (follow "For both:" below)

For Outlook: click Tools->E-Mail Accounts->View or change existing e-mail accounts; select your account hosted with CTS, and click "Change"; click the "More Settings" button; choose the "Advanced" tab

For both: Under Delivery, check the box next to 'Leave a copy of messages on server'. We suggest selecting the option for 'Remove from server after ___ days' and selecting 30, and also selecting the option for 'Remove from server when deleted from Deleted Items'. Click apply, OK, and close.

Q: Will I see exactly the same thing from my webmail that I see on my desktop?

A: No. Your desktop E-Mail is a localized copy of your E-mail. The software also gives you the ability to create subfolders, address lists, etc., and these are not synchronized with the E-Mail server. Our suggested is to use your desktop-based E-Mail client when at home or the office, but when traveling, check your mail via the Internet to see any new messages.
